As you may have noticed, I decided to change a thing or two (or three or ten) about the blog. This includes not only its appearance, but even its web address and title.
Why the changes? Mostly for the sake of consistency. The main reason I started the blog, after all, was to share my experiences with Ride:Well. So I’ve tried to make it a bit more consistent with that goal.
But this post is not simply to acknowledge the changes. It is more about giving credit where it's due for the new title, "Something About the Journey."
I am a firm believer that the journey is usually at least as rewarding as the destination, so I really wish I could take credit for the phrase. But I can't...
(As a graduate history student, my conscience would wreak havoc if I tried. The fear of plagiarism looms large with me.)
I took it right out of a song called "Pilgrims,” which was written by Adam Whipple.
I recently happened across Adam’s newest album, Old Skin Horse, and I have really enjoyed listening to it. In fact, a couple of the songs have been stuck in my head a lot lately (in a good way).
I am not sure how long it will last, but for the moment you can download the entire album for FREE at his MySpace Page.
His brand of music could probably be best described as acoustic or folk, which I happen to like. But genre notwithstanding, his lyrics are what really stand out.
Just in case you don’t get the chance to give it a listen, I am leaving you with the lyrics to the song that inspired the blog title:
"Pilgrims"
I wish that I had some place to go
And I would drive all night on a moonlight road
In the grip of winter’s quiet cold
With a bittersweet longing for my home
Cause there’s something about the journey...
In the dim light I will talk with friends
Grab a drink and tell a story, or listen in
But eventually the quiet will set in
And we will know it’s time to leave again
Cause there’s something about the journey...
Here in the dark I drive alone
With a simple longing for somewhere I belong
The silence of November sends me home
But I’ve still got a couple miles to go
So whether it was Florida or Michigan
I remember more the friends I made than what I did
Better than the finest wine of Solomon
Is traveling with pilgrims who become your friends
Cause there’s something about the journey...
We’re gonna get there someday
